For starters, Jared was home with us. That always makes life better! We made breakfast, then all four of us headed to the grocery store to find something for the grill. Publix always hands out cookies, but had special thick sugar cookies for the 4th. Beckett's seemed to disintegrate on the way to his mouth. He had white cookie crumbles and blue icing all over him and the cart. It was a disasters!
We returned home for lunch, naps (the kids), and cleaning (the parents). Some friends joined us for dinner and we did not want them to see how we normally live! After grilling some delicious kabobs and enjoying homemade chocolate chip cookies, we headed to the park for fireworks.
Beckett loved Lila's chair. Real men can pull off pink.
Just putting his feet up.
Lila and Little Henry had a blast.
These two ran (or in Lila's case, pranced) all afternoon. Too cute!
She worked up a powerful thirst and deemed all drinks "Wiwa's".
Ok, this is not the most flattering picture of my girl, but look at that hair!! It is gorgeous! Unlike mine, the humidity only makes hers cuter. The ringlets were out in full force and bouncing away.
What time Beckett wasn't crawling everywhere was spent climbing on Daddy. The little ones think Jared is a human jungle gym.
Lila worked on her yoga....
and Beckett thought she was a little strange.
The big kids were so sweet to B and remembered to play with him too.
The fireworks were great! We all enjoyed them, although Lila said they "scared my ears". Ha! Beckett was pretty impressed with the display.
I can't think of a better situation for this, except maybe an earlier time. The City of Daphne has the best family party for July 4th fireworks. This year they had hot dogs, snow cones, bottled water and a HUGE inflatable slide.....all for free! We didn't make it for that, but maybe when the kids are older. Anyway, we learned a little bit last year. For one, don't trust the website. It says fireworks at dusk. WRONG! It's fireworks at 9:10, 9:15. We chased a one and a half year old Lila around for hours last year. Not again!
We arrived around 8, and earlier rains had lowered the temperature. Miraculously, there were no bugs. I am a magnet for mosquitoes, so I was pretty ecstatic. The show is at a nearby sports complex. The city opens up the fields and you can set up wherever you like. Many people bring footballs or soccer balls. Families spread out blankets, put up chairs and enjoy the summer evening. It is nearly perfect. The fireworks lasted for thirty minutes straight and did not disappoint. We got home after 10, but it was a treat and very well worth it. We plan to do it again next year!
