Pearly Whites

On July 9th, Lila went to the dentist. Don't worry, we obviously survived, but I was nervous. Really nervous. Lila isn't a fan of brushing her teeth at home with her father. How could I possibly think she would sit quietly in the chair and show an almost stranger her teeth? Even better, the almost stranger (to Lila) dentist goes to church with us and is in our Sunday School class! There's a good chance I was more concerned with being able to face Dr. Wells and his wife the next week. PLUS, I know a few members of his staff, from church and MOPS. All this to say, there were a lot of potential witnesses to the potential meltdown.

They were all wonderful and assured me tantrums are completely normal. Dr. Wells just tells them thanks, he can see the teeth in the back. Clearly these kind people have never met a child as headstrong as my Lila.

Here she is waiting for Dr. Wells. He talked to Lila for a few minutes, then took her around the office.

Here she is after the cleaning. Notice there are no pictures of us during the cleaning. That's because I was practically sitting on her and holding her hands down. This little cookie is strong! She bucked and screamed pretty much the entire time. The good news is, he actually did get to clean her teeth a little. When they finished and we let her up, she said, "Tank you." So proud that she remembers her manners in the midst of her misery!

Her reaction was completely normal for her age and it really wasn't a huge deal. The office has a fun corner so the kids can play while Mommy talks with the doctor. Lila got to choose between coloring or playing games. When we left, she really was completely over the torture of brushing her teeth. Thanks to Dr. Wells and staff for getting us through the first cleaning!
