The Holidays - Part 2: The Christmas Tree

On Sunday after Thanksgiving, we headed to church, then made our way to Fish River. We enjoyed lunch at Big Daddy's Grill, which is actually right on the river.

After we finished marveling at how much our (very) little girl can eat, we headed for our final destination, Fish River Trees.

Fish River Trees is an experience. The type of experience depends on who you are in your family. It's a memory making experience for the mommies, an exciting, new and fun outdoor experience for the children, and work for the daddies. FRT is one of those places where you choose your tree and cut it down (they do have already cut trees for the less adventurous folks), go on a train ride, meet Santa, etc, etc. We started with Santa, since his station wasn't crowded just yet. It did not go well.

Lila has minimal to no stranger anxiety. She pretty much lets anyone hold her, except Santa! We even tried to put her in his lap with her back turned to him, but Lila is no fool. We know this is very common, but were still a little surprised. So we now join the ranks of parents who have pictures of screaming children with Santa.

On our way in, I noticed the Carolina Sapphire trees and thought they were gorgeous. They have an interesting tint that looks almost blue. It makes for a very interesting effect. Not to mention, these trees are very full and well shaped, and less expensive than the traditional Fraiser Fur. We wandered around and made our choice, then the fun started for Jared.

He cut down the chosen tree...

with a little direction from Lila.

She was pleased with Dad's work.

Time to explore!

Examining our choice

Jared had to find a cart for our tree. Before we could load it, Lila had to give the cart the old taste test.

Now the tires...

Time to load up

Real men carry pink diaper bags.

I wish the lighting had been better. This could have been a good picture. I still like it.

Nothing sweeter than Daddy with Baby.

Time to load up!

Lila really wanted to drive home, but she had to settle for a simulated experience.

The tree is up! A husband's work is never done.

The finished product. The red blur is Lila.
I tried so hard to get her to pose, but it wasn't happening.
